Ignorance

Ignorance - noun; lack of knowledge or learning.

Well boy and girls it seems that Nancy Pelosi is out of a job, Oklahoma has more or less rebooted the system, and Mama is now seen as ignorant simply because she did not vote for any liberal candidates. That doesn't seem very tolerant of the let's-love-everyone-for-who-they-are liberals, now does it?

Why is an individual or an entire group of people seen as ignorant simply because they disagree with all this "change" that President Obama talked about during his run for office?

Why is an individual or an entire group of people seen as ignorant simply because they disagree with honoring internation or Sharia law in an American court? Mama wants to know if you would want your sister / aunt / cousin / other female relative beaten or raped and the perp allowed to hide behind religious "rights". Yes, there is freedom of religion, but that only extends as far as it not interfering with someone else's rights. If it interferes with the law of the land (murder and rape are very wrong) then a person does not have the right to do it. The state has an interest in marriage (see State v. Green - Mama can give you the link).

Seems to Mama that for such a tolerant group of people - it seems they may not be getting enough oxygen through their masks.

How to get a better government

Mama thinks we should take all of our precious Pre-AP and AP students and bring home all the idiots we've sent to state and federal government...and replace them with our very smart children.

Really - do we need to vote in Oklahoma to ensure we do not allow Sharia law in our courts? Whatever happened to following the US Supreme Court's decision that a man cannot make a law unto himself and that we will not follow every single religious law that is out there? Will we really allow people to break local and federal law to uphold a religious law such as beating a wife to death or raping her on behalf of a religion? Is this something we really need to consider with a vote?

Mama wants to know if you voted. If so, what do you think was the most important issue?

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is here. It is hard to believe that in the very country with the most freedom that we actually have to set aside a day to say thank you to our service men and women. Shouldn't that be something we do daily? Shouldn't we think or reflect on our freedoms and be more appreciative of what we have and why we have it (let alone how we are able to retain it)?

Soldiers die for it. People fight for it. We take advantage of it. Most of us see it as just that extra day off at the end of May. Mama is certainly not saying that a three day weekend is a bad thing, but perhaps we all should be more appreciative and thoughtful about this holiday.

How many people will go to a VA Hospital and say thank you? How many will take their children to see memorials or statues dedicated to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice? How many will explain the signficant cost of freedom or the meaning of this holiday to their children? How many truly will research it and find out?

Cook outs and lake trips will abound. Enjoying the freedom will be done...but how many will truly reflect on what it took, takes, and will require to keep it? If you are having a cook out or a party invite a military family and make them the guests of honor. They could lose their loved one. They already live a life that many of Mama's little darlings are not accustomed to living.

We're all guilty of it...even Mama. Mama is married to someone who served. We get so caught up in the daily grind that we only see the last Monday in May as a day to stop and catch our breath.

Celebrities die and they get days of coverage. For what? What did they do for you, personally? Sure, some have served and they deserve honor and glory for that. However, what did Michael Jackson ever do for you? Maybe he made you dance...but he didn't protect your freedom or fight for the freedom of others.

One thing Mama loves about watching Nancy Grace is how she takes time at the end of every show to remember a fallen soldier or first responder. You can't get more American than giving honor where it is truly due: our military and the families that support them.

And people wonder why we have the problems that we do...Mama wonders why it is so hard for some people to teach their children age appropriate behavior. Mama was appalled to see her 15 year old niece do that dance...Mama won't even go look at the youtube video of babies.

Mama's Letter

Mama was "chosen" by the Republican Party to be a representative of the "Oklahoma 4th Congressional District". Of course, they ask for money. Do you know a politician that doesn't?

They wanted Mama to fill out an extended census style survey and give money to help ensure their victory in November. They gave Mama a postage paid envelope. Oh the joy that can be had with an envelope. Here's a copy of Mama's letter (and yes, there really are spaces between the paragraphs...Word doesn't copy so well):

Thank you so very much for the postage paid envelope in which to send this personal, short manifesto. If nothing else, you can take pride in giving the Postal Service something to do and maybe even saving a job since a postal worker delivered this to your mail facility.

You might wish to ponder the demographic your marketing department chose to focus on. I am not a Republican. Actually – I really do not expect you to read past this point before having a Linda Blair moment where your head spins around and you vomit green pea soup. I am not a Democrat. I am a registered Independent voter.

Until the Republican party takes the leadership position in supporting Independents in specific states, such as Oklahoma, that do not allow Independents to vote in certain elections you will not get a response from my household. Since neither party seems to have figured this out I will let you in on a little secret…first making the presumption that you read this far. Independents do not vote based on a candidate’s Independent status. If you, or anyone, in your party bothered to do the research you would know that we vote on issues. What does that mean to the Republic or Democrat parties? We could vote either way. We generally are not into names or public offices previously held. We are specifically into how a particular candidate stands on particular views that we hold near and dear.

I have no commitment to your party nor do I intend to develop that commitment. It seems to me that by sending such a misguided unofficial “official” letter your party thinks a bit higher of itself than it should. I completed my actual census.

One last tip before I close this quickly typed diatribe that will also be published to my website. To win in November your party needs to actually be the conservatives it claims to be and stand up for the rights of the American people (both born and unborn) before the election, during the election, and should one of your candidates win even during that person’s term. I know, that is a novel concept.

Good luck in November. Your party will need it and we Independents will once again be left to voting for the best of the worst.

A mother was arrested for drunk driving with six children in the car. Only two of them were her children.

Mama can't decide what was worse...the fact that this chick was drunk driving with kids in the car or that the alleged driver's mother is in denial....

"She's too caring of a mother...She wouldn't have done that..."

Well, short of this woman having Diabetes (which Mama doubts since she has a suspended license and this was not her first run in with the law a la drunk driving) this lady is in some deep denial. Mama wonders if her name is Cleopatra.

The Progressive Movement

Mama applauds the effort, really Mama does....but Mama thinks that before you ask someone to be a guest blogger you should probably find out what they stand for.

Here's the only PROGRESS Mama would like to see:

1. Father's rights.

2. More states making welfare recipients take drug tests.

3. More state freedom and less federal control.

4. More conservatism...and by that Mama does NOT mean an influx in the Republican party. Mama means actual conservative values.

5. More progress toward freedom from religion in schools. If you're going to kick out Christianity then do not tell the children about ANY religion. Period. If you're going to allow lessons about Islam or other religions you should give equal time to Christianity.

6. Bringing our troops home from the Middle East where it is pretty clear that they are not wanted. America had to go through its own civil war.

Mama could go on, but you get the point. Mama does not subscribe to this progressive movement...Mama's not a liberal, has never been a liberal, and pretty sure will never be a liberal. Mama thinks it is a lot like law. Each man cannot make a law unto himself. What might be liberal for Mama might not be liberal for someone else...and that person's liberal might not be liberal enough for the next person.

The only thing with the name "progressive" that Mama took a liking to was car insurance.

Sadness in Noble

Mama talked with a reporter from The Norman Transcript today. The Medical Examiner's office ruled Stephanie Wilcoxson's death a suicide...

She was 11 years old and killed herself by overdosing on methadone.

Mama is so sad and so angry at the same time. How can an 11 year old feel so unloved and unwanted by their only parent that they see suicide as the only option?

Was the methadone in the home? OSBI stated that Stephanie was dead for quite some time before the mother reported it. How does a mother not know that their young daughter is dead in the home for several days? That's easy...she had to know unless she didn't come home.

Wouldn't that be grounds for neglect or at the very least endangerment?

There are many people in this world that should be happy that Mama is not God. This would be an Ananias moment.

Mama's own 11 year old son asked why an 11 year old would want to die.

An 11 year old girl killed herself. No one helped her. Unloved. Unwanted. No one she felt she could talk to....as someone who once experienced suicidal ideations (but not that young) Mama can assure you that's exactly how she felt.

My ON TIME GOD

I want to tell you just how GOOD GOD is. I am posting this on all THREE of my blogs.

Yesterday Crown Prince Monkey Butt was VERY sick when he got up. I just knew something was wrong. He wouldn't eat. He said his stomach hurt, but since Crown Prince Bryonicle had a bug the other day....I thought my feelings must be wrong. He wanted to go to school so I let him even though he didn't eat.

By 9:30 he called me from school crying. I talked to the secretary (because who needs a school nurse) and she said Monkey Butt was doubled over crying it hurt so much.

I left work...and who knew that a 2004 Buick could REALLY do 110 MPH? Anyway - I prayed all the way. I asked God to touch my baby. He had complained it was the right side of his belly down in the lower quadrant. I called my pastor's wife to pray. I texted (not while driving) to ask friends that I knew could touch God to pray.

I made it back to Noble in less than 30 minutes. I work almost in Edmond. I ran INTO the school and found him laying on the floor in the nurse's room. My grandmother was a nurse so I did to him what she did to me what I was about 12 when she thought it might be my appendix. I did the leg test and the rapid push test (no that's not the medical term...). Both made the pain unbearable for him.

So he got his first ride in an ambulance.... His oxygen levels varied between 81 and 90 and his pulse was very high. The paramedic (that we kind of know because Monkey Butt goes to school with his son) was concerned that it might be appendicitis before I said that I thought it might be that.

The doctor came in almost immediately after they started an IV and started asking questions...did he feel hungry today, where's the pain, did the pushing around...and by this time the pain was also around his belly button. The doctor said he was sure it was his appendix, but let's run a CT scan to be sure. Mind you, this whole time...God's people were praying. They gave Monkey Butt morphine (which made America's Funniest Home Videos even FUNNIER for him) and the delicious iodine laced Crystal Light.

Before we even went back to for the CT he turned to me and said, "Mama - I'm hungry." We (Nana Beachy, Almost Prince Charming, the nurse, and I) joked about it probably just being the drugs taking the pain away.

After the CT we had to wait almost three hours for the results. I've never watched so many episodes of Garfield in my life. The CT scan came back clean and there was no infection in his blood work. His official diagnosis from the ER was abdominal pain, but my official diagnosis was a problem with an appendix that was fixed by the Great Physician. Sorry - but you don't go in with so many people and so many different things showing a problem with an appendix and then, after much prayer, have a doctor tell you they can't see anything.

We serve an ON TIME, MERCIFUL, and LOVING GOD. I am so thankful that He touched my baby.

Monkey Butt is still home today recovering from his ordeal, but God touched Him. There's NO doubt about it.

Dear Oprah -

Once again you've opened your mouth about something Mama is positive you know nothing about. You have no child of your own. You have never parented a teenager...let alone a teen who had a baby out of wedlock. Since so many women, for reasons Mama cannot really begin to fathom, look up to you why don't you stick to topics to which you can relate?

Bristol Palin made a brave choice to announce that she would wait until marriage before she had sex again. What do you do? You attack her decision like a coward and tell her "good luck". It is obvious you've never parented a child...let alone been a teen mother OR a single parent.

Mama was a teen mother AND a single parent. Bristol Palin should be applauded for her decision, supported for it, and looked up to instead of women like you who open their mouths without a single clue.

Your de minimis opinion is exactly why the teenage pregnancy rate goes up. Young women continue to hear that sex is good. It is good....and it is better in the confines of marriage. Young women hear that they can't withstand the pressure (gee Oprah thanks for the vote of confidence in today's young women...why not just come right out and tell them it's okay to be treated like unpaid whores?).

Hey Oprah - shut up. You're certainly no parenting expert...and frankly Mama is dancing with anticipation for when your show...your tired, liberal, false prophecy drivel...goes off of the air.

Marriage Secret

Mama had a great laugh about 40 seconds ago. Mama was channel surfing and saw something on CNN about the "secret" to a happy marriage for the Obamas. Mama will admit to being slightly intrigued. Mama kept the urge to throw the remote at the TV under control while listening to the gossip and droning about some nobody being addicted to plastic surgery.

Ready for the secret to a long and happy marriage? Mrs. Obama watches ESPN Sports Center in the morning with President Obama while they work out and she knows her sports.

Mama thought she might have a Linda Blair moment. There was no reference to making time for one another....or doing cute little things...or the importance of treating each other as a boyfriend / girlfriend...or the marriage being God centered.

Wow - if Mama knew that's all there was to a happy marriage maybe Mama would have started ignoring her beloved's needs long ago and just sat down and watched ESPN (with a barf bag close by). Mama didn't realize that a marriage depended on watching on television show that is almost as exciting as watching spackle dry. We all know just how exciting it is to watch spackle dry...Mama did it today while patching nail holes in the youth room at church. Mama thought she might have to fan herself.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering...they only let their daughters watch TV on weekends...and only Nick and Disney. Apparently the Obama adults haven't (a) watched some of the "pre-teen" shows on either channel or (b) realized that some of our more...uh...questionable "role models" for young women came from those channels. Who really wants their daughters looking up to Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera?

Well, Mama has to close for now. Looks like Mama needs to get rid of The Love Dare, The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, The Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage, and the Bible. Turns out all Mama needs is ESPN. Huh.

Party Crashers

So Mama heard from a little bird that some party crashers showed up to the big Tea Party Event held at the Bricktown Coca Cola Center. They were handing out CDs. Now, unfortunately Mama was under the weather and didn't get to attend...which means Mama did not get a CD.

Of course from what Mama heard (hear say! hear say!) they never quite said what their stance was about anything. Mama is not going to give out the links directly because Mama will not support 9/11 conspiracy theorists...

It is a group called We Are The Change Oklahoma. Mama hasn't been out of college too terribly long. Mama remembers that her Legal Research and Writing professors taught her something very valuable. If you can't find legitimate contact information OR an address OR when the site was last updated...you probably shouldn't use it.

Mama did a little digging on the site. They listed the fakest phone number on the doman registry information. Ever. It looks like the address is either a PO Box at a UPS store (which in itself is not a sin....) or ran behind another company in a certain shopping district in Moore.

Yet...no legitimate contact information? Do they really expect to be taken seriously? Mama found out as much as she could and handed it off to someone very special. This very special person did a little more digging and found out that at some point this particular group was once known as End The Fed OKC and had a different contact name listed and the link will purposely break if you do not take out the www. It redirects you to a youtube channel.

People....please...if you aren't invited to a party...and particularly if your beliefs do not in any way, shape, or form line up with the group you are around...perhaps you should find your own party goers.

Additionally, if you are going to try and scam people for money you might want to run a better front.

That's Mama's opinion. Mama wouldn't support either organization and she doesn't think you should either. Should such a group garner your interest do your homework on the organization AND the people running it.

Stereotypes

Nothing will get a person into trouble faster than making an over-generalized stereotype.

It doesn't matter if it is a stereotype based on gender, race, or social status (or a perceived social status). It is still a stereotype.

Mama thinks all should note that if you make those types of statements you would do well to prepare yourself for tough questioning or backlash.

Simply because someone has a tongue piercing or lives in a trailer does not make them uneducated or stupid. Perhaps you've never seen a doctor with a tongue piercing because he or she takes it out during office hours. Perhaps the mere thought of someone coming from a less-than-prominent past or background being more educated (or just down right smarter) than you is scary.

To that, Mama says tough. Perhaps you should expand your social circle to include people from different walks of life. By that, Mama means that you should spend more than five minutes with those particular people to find out that there are educated and uneducated people from all walks of life.

There is a quote that says we are all born ignorant, but we must work hard to remain stupid. Some people in this world show the truth in that statement.

For the record - Mama lives in a trailer AND bought it by choice. Why? Because at that time it made good sense. Mama's beloved husband just got out of the Air Force and hadn't found civilian employment. It made no sense to leave housing to chance. We bought the place outright completely remodeled on the inside. We certainly did not have to worry about making a rent payment, now did we? Oh, and Mama graduated with a Bachelor's degree in three years and did it working full time AND was awarded Summa Cum Laude honors.

Education takes place more than in a classroom. It takes real world experience that a lot of people apparently miss out on by limiting their choices.

Lesson number two in how not to be a jerk - don't make over-generalized stereotypes and maybe take a critical thinking course or two...

NOW is jumping down the throat of the military for wanting to court marshal single women in the military who get pregnant (on purpose). How dare the military tell a woman what to do with her body.

Well, NOW, if you are THE person to speak for ALL women...why not consider the small women in utero who NEED their mothers to take care of them after they are born?

Oh wait - that's right. Silly Mama! Mama forgot that they aren't interested in the best interest of a child...only in adults who make poor decisions.

For the record - Mama does not oppose women in the military. Mama just thinks that if women want to be Mama then women ought to be allowed out of the military or wait until they have served their time OR have an unenlisted spouse.

Cute Christmas Idea

Mama is stealing this from her mama-in-law. Mama-in-law teaches the primary Sunday School class. The theme is a bakery for the entire quarter. Every Sunday they "cook" something in class. This past week, Mama's mama-in-law was pure brilliance!

She took little smokies and biscuits...and she made the biscuits into little baskets. She put the little smokies in the baskets. She called them Jesus in the managers instead of pigs in a blanket. The kids loved it!

Mama thinks this entire thing should really be on the collective shoulders belonging to the Secret Service. You let people in who weren't on the list...really? Well then perhaps a Taliban member would be willing to undergo "elective" surgery to change their appearance and attend the next function and blow up our leaders.

What the couple did was wrong, no doubt about it...and Mama thinks they should be punished - but who has the bigger responsibility? Consider Jaycee Duggard. Who had the bigger responsibility? The disgusting sex offender who we all knew would never do the right thing or the police who could have found her sooner?

This is a matter of national security. If two "nobodies" can waltz right in to something of this caliber shouldn't we all be a little concerned?

Louisiana Has It Right!

Mama thinks that all states should adopt the same attitude and law as Louisiana...if you, as an adult, rape a child you should get the death penalty. Now Mama is NOT talking about that gray area of a 19 year old boy who has sex with a 16 year old girl... Mama is talking about grown men (and women) raping children.

Mama finds it just horrifying that people in this country (not all people) strive so hard for a woman's right to choose to murder an unborn baby, but fight so hard to get rid of the death penalty.

You tell Mama, then, what you think the fitting punishment (aside from do unto others....) you would have them go through, then?! There is no rehabilitation for sickos like this:

Mama decided to hop online today and use Write or Die and a new writing prompt generator. Imagine Mama's surprise when she received this prompt: Is the media manipulative? My, my...isn't that a loaded question?

It really doesn't matter which channel you watch for news nor which website you read for your news fix. If you do not have a basic insight on critical thinking, you can and will get sucked in to the media manipulation.

Take the swine flu, for instance. Mama had it almost three weeks ago. Mama lived through it. Did it stink? You betcha. Did Mama wish she didn't have it? You betcha. Did Mama get it because she didn't get her flu shot? No. Mama got it because Daddy brought it home from Vegas. Prior to the swine flu, Mama hadn't caught the flu in nearly six years...and Mama doesn't take the flu shot Is it a danger to those with weakened immune systems? Mama doesn't doubt it, but just for the record...the swine flu hasn't killed nearly as many people in its almost year long run as the regular flu kills every year.

When an article or a commentator uses words such as forever, always, and similar words...the sentences are just not true. Something is not going to be "always" the same. There will come a difference in every situation. Learn about those sorts of tricks and about red herrings...learn how they try and throw you off track.

The conservative media will take every story and not only give a conservative opinion, but tell you exactly why they believe the liberal media is wrong. The liberal media does the same thing...however it is Mama's opinion that the liberal media is far worse at mudslinging. Mama is not a fan of Palin, but to call her an Ava Perone? Really? Mama can't recall a time that the conservative media said something so incredibly sexist about Hillary Clinton. In fact, quite a few liberal women look up her. That sends the message to little baby liberals every where that women should put up with philandering men.

The liberal media will take every story and not only give a liberal opinion, but tell you exactly how everyone will suffer if we don't kill babies and save the whales...but if we kill all the little liberals then who will continue to save the whales?

Mama has a running joke with a friend...if you want the unbiased side of a story you read the story on both a liberal news website and a conservative news website. You weed out the obviously biased opinions and red herrings and ta-da...you might just have the actual story. Mama's grandmama always said there are three sides to every story...his, hers, and the truth.

It is the same. TV is something we are to control; it is not something to control us. To insist the media to be responsible for itself would be like Mama putting her stupid dog in a room full of squirrels with laser dots on them and insisting he not go for the dot. Creative Punishment

Grounding, time out, and spankings not working? Get creative! Recently Mama's older son decided that while he could do the work it was just too much of an effort to turn it in. He promptly went from an A to an F...in 6th grade reading. For the record - precious little sweetums reads and comprehends on a college level. He was not bored; his teacher lets him read what he wants to read. Mama's third grade little precious has developed a mouth. Grounding did not seem to truly solve either issue.

Yes, one little sweetums turned in his school work and brought his grade up to a B....but did he learn a lesson? Somehow, Mama doubted it.

Yes, one mouthy little sweetums stopped running his mouth for about a day, but went right back to it.

So Mama decided a little creative punishment was in order. When we do not get good grades, we do not usually go to college. While it is possible to get a good job without a degree (Dear Old Dad is a fine example of that), it is a bit more likely that one would be able to move out of the basement if one had a college degree....note that Mama said "more likely" because she does know what the economy is like. When we get mouthy with a boss, we lose our job. Either way - the work one can eventually do is very limited.

To prepare them or expose to them to their probable future Mama had them move the table, the dog crate, and the dog food out of the kitchen. Our kitchen is rather small. Those were the only things Mama could get away with making them move without being accused of abuse.

They each took a turn sweeping the floor...even under the cabinets. Then, Mama made a sink full of Mr. Clean with Febreze and a rag. Yes, that's right. Mama had her precious little sweetums scrub the floor on their hands and knees.

Idle hands at school = not so idle hands at home. Smart mouth at home = needing something to keep the mind busy.

We are the proud owners of a sparkling kitchen floor and should it be required...we do have two bathrooms.

They have decided that school work and holding of the tongue are far easier than scrubbing a floor on their hands and knees.

God help us...

Discipline - The Parental Stimulus Package

Parents - are you tired of your 26 year old kid with the Masters degree living in your basement with no job? Parents - are you tired of your six year old pitching fits in the middle of sprawl-mart that make you wish you could literally stick duct tape over their mouths?

Mama and the Conservative Liberal would like to introduce all of you parents to an excellent stimulus package. As a matter of fact she agrees with Mama that the best way to save the nation in the future is to start working on it now. What does that consist of?

It consists of parents stopping the nonsense of being their child's "friend" and realize that they are the parent. It consists of parents realizing that discipline is a good thing. Would you just let your dog pee in the floor? No, not if you are a normal, sane person. Would you just let a dog bite your kid on the leg? No, not if you were a good parent.

So, America, the question is why aren't you parenting? This Mama and the Conservative Liberal did not give birth to your children and as such....we do not wish to be subjected to ill tempered, misbehaving, self-centered brats in public. Yes, Mama and the Conservative Liberal both understand that melt downs happen. Sometimes that two year old just will not stop crying. That does not mean that you beat them in the middle of the store...but you do take them out of the store and you leave your stuff behind. Mama does not care if it makes extra work for you...if you had them, you need to raise them. If they are old enough to know right from wrong you have two choices - remove them from the situation or do not be afraid to exercise your parental control in public. Mama is not above swatting a behind in public and neither should you if the situation warrants it.

Think of it this way - disciplining your children gives them moral and ethical responsibilities. Do you want a self-centered child choosing your nursing home or do you want a rational, compassionate adult child choosing your nursing home?

Moral of the story - do not be above disciplining your child in public. Mama agrees that not all children respond to the same type of discipline. Spanking is not child abuse, but you do not spank for every single offense. Yet time out does not work for every single offense; neither does grounding. In short, get to know your child and discipline accordingly.

What does it take to get to know your child? Spend time with them. By spending time with them you build a relationship with them. Mama does not agree that quality will necessarily beat quantity. Do you really think they are going to remember the one time you took them to the amusement park or the fifteen times you played Slap Jack with them while they were sick with strep throat?

So just how does one discipline after getting to know their child? The answer is not simple as there are many forms of discipline. One my precious little sweetums responds better to grounding and one responds better to time out. The key to ensuring a better next generation that will not run our country into the ground is follow through. Do not just say, "You get over here or I'll....." You go get them and you follow through.

Mama's experienced one too many parents look at her in church and say, "How do you get my child to mind you so well? They don't listen at home." They key is follow through. If Mama gives a warning and tells a child if they do it again there will be a consequence (such as a naughty spot or not getting to color) then Mama follows through. Sure they will test you...but you've been here longer......so you better have more will power.

Parents! Parents! Parents! Discipline is your friend. There's nothing wrong with making a child feel good and praise them. That's part of the stimulus plan for a better nation. Children must know that you approve of them or that they have done a good time, but don't lie to them. The problem with the feel good generation is that they think they are good at something when, in reality, they suck. We, as Americans, cannot compete with the Japanese or other advanced nations if we continue to just pet and praise instead of poke and prod.

Ghandi (pick a spelling...Mama found two on the 'net...Gandhi and Ghandi) said that we should become the change we want to see. Do you want your children to react with more patience and self control? Then show them how by being a good example instead of medicating them into oblivion. Medication is not discipline and should only be used after many, many, many opinions, visits, and consistent follow through.

Now this whole thing is just getting silly!

Mama agrees with the President...she's not quite sure why he was awarded with it.

Let's start with the fact that there is a process involved.

1. Invitations go out in September.

2. Nominations are due in February. (By the way - Mama can't find him in the database as a nominee because those records are sealed for 50 years...my, isn't that convenient...).

3. A short list is made in March and it is reviewed through August.

4. In October they pick.

5. In December they award.

We do not give awards and tell people to earn it...and why should we, as a country, strive to earn something for a President that wasn't nominated and that understands that there was really no reason for him to be awarded it. We still have starving children. He's ramping up for more troops to go to Afghanistan. Sure, he's been buddy buddy with some really "peaceful" guys if you count Hugo Chavez as peaceful.

Can Mama go ahead and award her little darlings with the honor of being valedictorian even though her darlings are in 6th and 3rd grades? Can Mama do that even though the sixth grader is bringing home two Cs and a D? Would it make any sense at all for Mama to tell him, at that point, to go earn it?

Awards are there for those that did something to deserve it. That's why it is an award. It wouldn't mean anything if we just started randomly giving out awards.

For the silly, silly liberals that think we conservatives just hate the President because we don't think he deserves it...don't be so illogical. Obama, then, must hate himself as well as many of his own constituents..

Mama has yet to have anyone address the school award scenario. Shall we just award Florida or Texas the BCS trophy now for college football? They haven't won yet, but hey...if we're just going to hand out awards....

Can you imagine if something like that would have taken place with a conservative in office? Talk about a backlash and a double standard! Oh and let's not forget how "peaceful" it is to call those with a differing opinion (such as this one) hateful....

Shame on the managers of the Empire State Building! Red, white, and blue coloring during July or red and green during the Christmas season is one thing. Honoring countries like Canada and Australia...well Mama guesses that's okay, too. Why in the world are they lighting up the Empire State Building in red and yellow to celebrate China's communist take over?! If we, as a nation, condemn that sort of socialism (at least we say that we do...) should one of our most famous buildings be applauding it?

Why honor a country that kills millions and killed close to 26 million people during the revolution that brought communism? Mama's real question is....what do they have on American leaders that American leaders were so quick to let this happen and allow it to continue?

You know little darlings...Mama wasn't even going to address this issue. Mama thinks that when we continue to give attention to person's intentional bad behavior it merely encourages them because it is the only way they can get attention. However last night Mama was killing time on Facebook. Mama took a quiz called Where Will Kanye Interrupt You?

It said that Kanye would interrupt Mama in the middle of a fight with her significant other. That's just silly for a couple of reasons.

Mama doesn't take well to people interrupting a conversation that they were not invited to participate. Now, that doesn't mean someone who has something valid to contribute to the discussion. Now Mama realizes that a conversation and an argument or fight are two different things...but unless someone is invited into the argument to defuse or offer solutions (and it isn't a violent confrontation) people should mind their own business. Kanye would be best served by remaining on whatever coast he currently resides...because in Oklahoma - we don't take kindly to rude people. Interrupt an Oklahoma girl in that fashion, Kanye, and find out what happens. It wouldn't work out in his favor. The attention he garnered would be from Mama or some other well meaning Okie going to jail for agg. assault and battery. Even if it didn't escalate to a physical confrontation he would, without a doubt, determine that because he was interrupted and cut off (because you know Mama would put him in his place and make him feel like he's an inch tall) that it was obviously a hate crime. It must be hate speech. Yes. It is hate speech. Mama feels great displeasure with drama kings and incredibly rude, repetitive behavior.

Mama wonders if Kanye's poor mother is rolling over in her grave. Mama can't fathom a single Okie woman that would be pleased to see her child acting in such a manner. His mother was highly educated and respected. Unfortunately, Kanye turned in to a spoiled, talentless brat whose only way to stay in the lime light is to steal it away from other performers.

Dear little darlings...if we would expect more from our "role models" they would be obligated to give more. If we would stop showering them with media coverage from the extreme bad behavior they would realize that it takes more than talent to be looked at with respect.

A famous writer once said that the world doesn't deserve good writing and that's why we are stuck with such crap. Mama believes it is the same for "stars". We do not demand good behavior so we do not receive it.

Bad Parenting 101

Gather round, young ones, and learn from the mistakes of others. Today Mama has an example of incredibly bad parenting.

You leave to go participate in your favorite past time or your "job"...that is, robbery. This man decided to start his own brand of "Bring Your Child To Work Day". Mama thinks that in addition to the counts of breaking and entering, larceny, and contributing to the deliquency of a minor that he should also be charged with neglect (at the very least).

No good deed goes unpunished

Once upon a time a little boy was dropped for school. He goes into his first grade class room. He tells his teacher that he is going to the cafeteria. She lets him leave the room. The little boy doesn't go to the cafeteria. He leaves the school.

A lady named Laurinda Drake was picking up her son for the day from school (at 9:00am...so maybe he was sick or had an appointment). This school is in Nevada and close to desert landscaping. She sees a little boy walking down the road. She offers him a ride home and guess what, boys and girls? He doesn't know his address. She takes him back to her home and calls the school. She asks the school if they are missing any children.

"No," the school replied. "Really?" she questions, "Because I have one of your students that was walking down the road alone." Or something like that...

In the meantime the school had called the mother to tell her that her child was not at the school. The mother rushes to the school and is told that Ms. Drake has her son, but that they cannot give her Ms. Drake's number even though they have it. Confidentiality, you see.

Ms. Drake told the school she would bring him back to the school....but then decided she would take him to the superintendant's office because she did not believe that school to be a safe place. They didn't know he was even missing though the teacher knew he had been at school. He walked out the door. Alone. No one stopped him.

Ms. Drake took the boy to the superintendant's office where she is questioned by the police and arrested for first degree kidnapping.

Your tax dollars at work, boys and girls... She protected the boy. She took him to a safe place after she blasted the school with their lack of concern over the security of the children placed in their care...and SHE is the one prosecuted.

Doesn't that beat all? This is why society doesn't step in to help when they see something is wrong. There is such a large chance of punishment.

No good deed goes unpunished...and now Ms. Drake is on trial.

As the little boy's mother...Mama would be angry, too. However Mama would be angry with those that should have known he was missing before hand. Mama would be very thankful to get her little boy back in one piece from the woman that kept him safe seeing as how he didn't know where he lived.

The mother did not allow her child to return to that school, but she did testify against Ms. Drake.

Mama learned about this by watching Ashleigh Banfield.

UPDATE: Mama just saw that on TruTV that Ms. Drake was acquitted of her charges!

Indoctrination?

There's been a lot of fussin' recently about the President making some sort of "televised" presentation to school age children across our nation. Mama wonders why he couldn't just be a reading buddy or something.

The first complaint that Mama saw was that it is nothing more than an attempt at indoctrination. Mama has heard bits and pieces of the "pledge" and Mama will get to how she feels about that in just a minute. Right now, though, Mama wants to clear up the whole negative connotation about the word indoctrinate. When we hear or read the word it gives us all the heebee-jeebies. The first thing Mama thinks of is Charles Manson and his "family" who enjoyed passing the time by cutting up pregnant women and spelling three letter words on the walls. Manson, without a shadow of a doubt, brain washed those people.

However to some degree we all take indoctrinate our children, family, and friends. Did you teach your babies to say, "please" and "thank you"? You indoctrinated them. Did you teach your babies to use a fork or not drink out of the toilet? You indoctrinated them. Did you teach your children that Jesus died for us? You indoctrinated them. Did you teach them the PEMDAS to solve their easier math problems? You indoctrinated them. Yet...when it is something we do not personally agree with we automatically throw the word indoctrination around like it is a dirty and evil word.

It's all a form of brain washing. It isn't until we vehemently disagree with an idea that we label it. Mama was recently called a bad parent because she is opting her out her precious little sweetums from the ~~circus~~ presentation. Why? Because Mama feels that parents should be left to do the parenting, teachers should be left to do the teaching (except you lovely homeschoolers. Mama supports homeschooling!), and presidents should be left to hob nobbing and rubbing elbows with foreign diplomats.

Should children make oaths or pledges? The Bible is clear that if we make an oath we are to keep it. There are some limits to that. Mama has her own special rules. It can't be immoral, illegal, or cause Mama to have a heart attack when she hears about it. Mama thinks it is a good thing to draw attention to those suffering from hunger, poverty, mental illness, or sickness. Children should be raised to have compassion and empathy and to do what is in their means. However, that is a parent's job. No one will convince Mama that a man that has never met my precious little sweetums can educate them better about it than she can. He doesn't know Mama's babies...and he doesn't know yours. If it takes a complete stranger to educate your babies on the woes of civilization...you are not doing your job as a parent.

Mama thinks it is wonderful when children want to right a wrong. One of Mama's precious little sweetums has a very soft spot in his heart for babies. He likes to make baby hats on a loom to donate. Mama's other precious little sweetum has a soft spot for people that do without or are hungry. He's participated in numerous food drives and practically grew up at a food bank stocking the low shelves he could reach. Mama has a soft spot for all children or those that are suffering. The Bible tells us that whatsoever we do for our brethren we are really doing for Jesus.

Mama doesn't feel that children should make a pledge to do whatever they can to serve or support the President. The military (Lord bless every one!!) serve their country. We Christians serve our Jesus. We have no business pledging to serve a man. Mama thinks the President had one too many play dates with "our dear leader" Kim Jong Il. Americans are not here to support the President. As a matter of fact...last time Mama took history (and she doesn't think it's changed too much in the last 15 years...) the President was given a job by the people. That makes him in the office to serve us... Doesn't his wants sound a bit backwards to you?

Besides...if he can be so succint with what he feels our children should do why can't he explain what he wants done with healthcare in 1100 pages?

Just a thought.

Please, if you disagree with the presentation, call your local schools and ask if their is an opt out activity. If there is, opt them out. If there isn't, just check them out for that part of the day. Take them to a museum or go to the library and look up history books. Goodness knows quite a few Americans out there need a refresher.

Medicine Laced Cocaine Kills!

Mama had to read the name of the news article twice. Mama thought surely they had it backwards. It must be that medicine laced with cocaine kills some innocent person.

Sadly, the news article title was not a typo. Sorry, but Mama doesn't feel sorry for people who get sick from ingesting equine medication that was in the cocaine they illegally bought for illicit use.

Can someone please explain to Mama why this is news worthy?

Healthcare Reform

Yes, Mama knows how desperately all of her little darlings have waited patiently, including baited breath, for her opinion. Mama wanted to take time before composing a brief entry on the subject.

One of Mama's precious little sweetums has asthma. Mama has Lupus. We manage to fall through the cracks. Coverage from employer is too high. Yet we make too much to take advantage of state insurance for the children. We will be getting a private policy for the sum of $350 a month to cover us, but Mama's two medicines won't be covered for a year.

Mama does believe the system needs reformation. Mama's mama, your grand nanny, is on Medicaide. Can you say, "Big honkin' joke!" Sure, Mama knew you could. She gets "three punches" on a card. She can use them for either medicine OR doctor's appointments. Grand nanny is schitzophrenic, diabetic, and has COPD. Grand nanny recently stopped smoking (yay for grand nanny!). Now, tell Mama what grand nanny should do. There are times when grand nanny can't get everything she needs. Mama and Uncle Baldy take care of it, but if the system is so excited and pleased to take care of the needy, tell Mama why they aren't doing it.

Additionally - if the public system is so fantastic...explain to Mama why our elected officials won't give up their private insurance.

Instead of pointing out flaws, and Mama could sit here all day and do that...but her precious little sweetums wants some fried chicken and a cake for Sunday dinner. So Mama came out with a solution. That's what Mamas are for!

What did we do to the tobacco companies (aside from sue)? We taxed the crap out of them. What did the money go toward? Supposedly the money went to education and smoking cessation programs. Did the tobacco companies go out of business? Nope.

Drug companies charge Americans significantly more money because, according to them, we can pay more. Countries like Mexico and Canada pay much less for the exact same drug. Mama aint talking about online Mexican or Canadian "pharmacies". Mama is talking prescription per prescription comparision. Why? The answer is that these countries can't afford to pay what we pay. So, essentially, it is not that the drug companies must charge these prices. It is that the drug companies know they can get that amount out of us.

Merck had an 83% profit margin last year. If it was an oil company we'd all cry out that we are being gouged.

Mama proposes that we sue the crap out of these big pharmaceutical companies. Once we get the difference in what we pay and what another North American country pays we use that money, invested wisely, to pay for a public option.

For all of you little darlings so excited about socialized medicine you can do one of two things. Go to Canada next time you need a bypass. You'll probably die while you wait. Another option is that you can go visit a reservation here in the good ole' U S of A. Native Americans have socialized, government ran medicine. What do you hear about reservation clinics on the news? Not enough money, tight budgets, no medicine, long waits, etc. The last big report Mama saw was about the "Indian Clinic" here in Oklahoma. More Native American children in Oklahoma are diagnosed with Diabetes than any other disease. Why? Some could say lack of exercise or some could say lack of proper nutrition. Well, who runs those programs for our true founders? The government. Do you really think government rations are healthy options? No. They're cheap.

The entire nation deserves better than government ran health care.

One size fits law

For the most part - Mama thinks the legal system is wonderful. Mama wouldn't want to be tried in any other country. Mama wouldn't want to live in any other country...and as far as Mama is concerned - if you don't like this country, Mama is glad that her Big Strong Man fought for your right to say what you want...but he also fought for Mama's right to tell you to get the hell out if you don't like it here.

Anyway...sometimes, though, Mama gets a little frustrated at one size fits law. What is one size fits law? This will be a new topic here where Mama will talk about the problem with the law.

Our very first, and most serious, instance is the 17 year old girl in Ohio. She is a native of Sri Lanka and recently became a Christian. Her parents are muslim. Very muslim. As in death honor killing muslim. She's afraid for her life because of her conversion. She ran away and now a court case has ensued (no pun intended). The main issue right now is jurisdiction. Since she is technically a run away she may be returned to her parents in the original jurisdiction despite the danger she faces.

What happened to give me your poor, tired, huddled masses, etc., etc? Mama's first question is age of consent in general. Mama realizes this is not marriage or sex or anything of the like. However, if we decide that children can legally decide their own choices regarding sex and marriage as early as 14 in some states...shouldn't, at least in extenuating circumstances, they be allowed to leave a potentially deadly situation?

One size fits law.

Cosmic Justice

Mama doesn't really believe in karma...but Mama couldn't think of a more fitting title for this post.

You see, little darlings, there is a man in the UK that is a convicted arsonist. A couple of people broke in to his house and stole some things including his computer. Burglary is, in general, an awful thing. In fact, it directly violates on of God's Ten Commandments.

However, the burglers did something rather unexpected. They went to the police. You see, the computer was loaded down with child porn. That's some cosmic justice, don't you think? The guy apparently didn't do much time for arson (he's only 24 and obviously wasn't in jail). Mama's question is whether or not the burglers should be rewarded for getting such a schmuck off the streets.

Deep Thoughts

Now of course those didn't come from Mama.

Mama was on Facebook (spawn of satan that steals your soul and time) and saw a post from one of her high school acquaintances. The post said that he was experiencing a time of deep reflection. You see, boys and girls, his little son was with him and they saw an Army tank (don't ask Mama where they were because Mama doesn't know). The little boy asked him what it was. Mama has boys and they've always known what a tank is.

Mama is curious to know whether or not that reflection was based on the fact that his kid was not educated about what a tank was, its use, and its history...or if he was reflecting on how glad he is that his kid doesn't know about tanks.

Either way it makes Mama a bit sad. Children do not learn history. Liberal schooling systems do not like to talk about the past, but yet most liberals like to throw up the past at inopportune, eye-gouging moments when they are so for "moving on". If the schools aren't teaching...and the parents aren't teaching - what will happen to our children, our history, and our future? We must know where we came from in order to know where we are going. Our past shows us not only where we came from, but also our mistakes and provides examples of where we could do better.

If he was happy, and Mama didn't ask to find out, about his son not knowing what a tank was that makes Mama sad, too. What next will we deny? Will we deny the existance of war? War is ugly and beautiful at the same time. It is freedom and oppression. It is death and life. In short, it is what it is. If we aren't teaching them - who will? Do you want someone else teaching them? Consider Hitler. Consider the anti-christ who will come eventually. Do you want your children easily falling as prey to the roaring lion?

We can't have a future if we don't acknowledge the past. We stalemate. We stall. We become a gray area instead of a nation founded on rights, principles, and self-evident truths.

What subject do you keep from your kid? Mama isn't talking about sex or drugs or alcohol. Mama is talking about the necessities of American history. We are where we are because we did what we did. No other country is greater or has a richer history. There's a reason for that. Like it or leave it. Teach it or risk losing it all.

Vegans and Vegetarians

Dear Vegans and Vegetarians -

Mama doesn't care that you don't eat meat or things derived from animals. Mama does care about the stink being raised about schools not offering vegans and vegetarians. Unless you all would like to pony up the cash to allow schools to fund such options, might Mama suggest you get up earlier and pack your kid a lunch?

One of Mama's precious little sweetums has an allergy to milk fat. Does Mama complain that the chocolate milk at the school is made from 2%? No. Mama just gives him a thermos OR he can do without. Mama could just let him drink the mean ole' milk fat that makes him barf all over the place, but Mama knows teachers don't make enough to put up with that.

So, be sweet little darlings and take responsibility for your own life choices.

In an unprecedented display...you little darlings get two posts from Mama today. Is it the weather that makes people go stupid?

Mama was on a website today, Cafemom, and a woman wanted a chore chart for not only her children...but for her husband as well. She lamented that house work wasn't split 50/50 since they both work full time.

Mama was shocked...not at the thought of things being split equally (even though we all know it is never split 50/50). Mama was shocked at the audacity this woman had to treat her husband as a child. Want to piss your husband off? Treat him like one of the kids...and Mama doesn't mean fix his breakfast for him. Mama means to literally treat him like a child. If she wanted another child then they should talk about having another child.

If she wants a happy marriage she should apply this principle:

Mama has been married for almost a decade and been with Daddy for 14 years. Mama would be mighty insulted if Daddy brought her a chore chart and offered reward stickers. Mama would think that Daddy obviously thinks he married a child or a moron instead of a woman.

Mama and Daddy may joke about the other being "one of the kids", but we don't treat each other that way.

Don't be your spouse's parent. Be their spouse. Treat them the way you would want to be treated.

Bad Parenting 101

Never ever blame your 8 year old daughter for the fact that she was raped by four boys ages 9-14. Additionally, never ever tell CPS to take the daughter and never bring her back because she brought shame to her family. Yes, little precious darlings, this even happened here in America.

Mama says to send the parents back to their country because they don't deserve to be here.

World's Oldest Mom Dies

The "World's Oldest" mom died at 69. She gave birth to twins three years ago.

What doctor agreed to do this? Who on earth thought this would be a good idea?

Our bodies stop preparing us for babies for a reason. Sure, Mama knows she could go outside and get hit by a car but I have less of a chance of dying at 30 than at 69.

Women really should stop and think about what is in the best interest of babies instead of selfish motives. Having a baby at 60 something years old is selfish. Those babies won't even REMEMBER her which Mama thinks could be both good and bad.

Mama read this morning that a 72 year old woman is spending boucoup dollars to become the world's oldest mother. Why is this a competition? Go to the hospital and rock babies. Go work in a daycare. You have no business putting a baby in that predicament. Best case scenario: the baby is full term and healthy. You die and leave the baby motherless. Worst case scenario: the child is born with severe special needs and you die...leaving the baby motherless and needing a lifetime of care. Does this really sound like a reasonable, sound parenting decision?!

A Worthy Glorification

Know Your Constitution - Second Amendment

Settle down class. Mama knows that yesterday was a grave day in American entertainment history (no pun intended). More important than the deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson is your Second Amendment rights. Yes, that's correct. Rights. Plural version of right.

Mama wants all of her precious little darlings to understand that the Second Amendment is more than just one big gi-normous (bleh) run on sentence.

Amendment II -

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

We have two rights under this Amendment. The first right is our right to keep a well regulated militia to secure our free state. Mama isn't talking about the Rambo style "commandos" like Dale Dribbel and his buddies. Mama is talking about the National Guard and well regulated militias that group together for the protection of the state and its people as a whole. We are not talking KKK or gangs. Those are not militias; those are leeches on society.

The second right is the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Mama does question the validity of some people who choose to stockpile weapons, but at the same time...as long as they aren't planning to hurt anyone or hurting anyone - it really isn't our business. Mama is all for concealed carry and protecting our families and ourselves. You break in to my house...it aint the 80 pound dog you better worry about. Mama and Daddy are both crack shots...and our precious little sweetums are both coming right along. Sure, they only have BB guns but they can put out an eye.

You know what, just for grins and giggles let's say the Second Amendment has three rights. The third one can really be coupled up with the other two, but it is its own right nonetheless. The right is that the other two rights shall not be infringed.

Remember though - your rights only extend to the point that you begin to threaten or violate another person's rights. So all of you gun-banning, tree hugging liberals please know one thing...if you ever happen to sleep at my home (don't know considering all of my family members, both immediate and extended, have a brain and we wouldn't know how to cater to a zombie) and someone breaks in, Mama will protect you just like you are one of her own precious little sweetums. Just remember, though, you have no right to take away our right to bear arms. It doesn't just apply to the military. Learn to read and learn how to interpret the almight comma.

The Trooper and the EMT

Yes, Mama realizes it sounds like the start of a bad joke. Mama likes bad jokes, but sadly this was all too real. Mama is sure everyone knows about the story.

Trooper pulled over ambulance. Trooper talked to driver. Trooper was interrupted by guy in the back. Trooper became irate. Trooper choked the EMT that was "in charge". Family of patient got the whole thing on camera phone....and part of it was caught from the dash cam.

Mama's first reaction was, "Is this a try-out for Jerry Springer?" Really.. Here we have two highly respected, professional people. Mama has been pulled over before, but Mama has never ever been harassed or treated poorly. Mama knows this is not the same with everyone. For those that feel they have been mistreated and want to vent about it, go here and register. However, for the most part troopers are stand up men and women.

Yes, the trooper was out of line. He could have quickly regained control of the situation and avoided turning himself into a public spectacle simply by saying, "I'll meet you at the hospital." Mama isn't going to get in to the what ifs and if onlys. It doesn't do any good. Instead, while it will seem like Mama is sticking up for a bad man, Mama wants you to consider something.

This trooper recently returned from Iraq. Could it be that while he was most certainly out of line he just wasn't emotionally ready or could not switch back to partial civilian mode? Over there - you never know who would kill you just as soon as look at you. Mama thinks it might take some time to be able to re-transition out of that mind set. Perhaps he wasn't quite ready to be on the force.

Mama knows three very nice people that served in Iraq. Mama certainly couldn't have done it, and the three of them did their jobs and when they came home they were certainly changed in aspects of their personalities. War changes a person. Define war however you want.

Mama thinks the trooper should resign and not necessarily because he did something wrong. Mama thinks it is in his best mental interest. We already know the family of the patient is going to sue; however think about this: she wasn't terminal and she wasn't a priority call or they would have kept going to the hospital with their lights and sirens. Mama isn't saying the patient wasn't important because she was very important. The EMTs had a duty to get her to the hospital...and that's hard to do when you're pulled over.

Mama just thinks this particular trooper wasn't ready for law enforcement work. Enforcing the law here must be completely different than enforcing the law in Iraq. Please don't rush completely to judgment on the situation.

Beautiful twisting

Twisting comes from both sides of the media. Mama was reading stories today about whether or not Mirandizing suspected terrorists was good or bad. Mama heard on the radio that the current administration was going to have all military members Mirandize any person they capture during war. Mama re-read a story and wanted to point something out. It wasn't the military that was Mirandizing suspected terrorists on American bases overseas. It was the FBI doing it.

The FBI is not the military; they are a law enforcement organization (please keep your conspiracy theories to yourself...). As a law enforcement organization they need to do things to preserve evidence they may get as a result of interrogation. If a person is not properly Mirandized when law enforcement is involved confessions and other evidence can be (and usually is) thrown out at trial or even before trial.

The military is not law enforcement (aside from on a military base).

Mama just loves sensational news stories, don't you?

A five year old precious, precious baby girl left to play outside in an apartment parking lot unsupervised. Another little girl went in later and said she was playing in the road. Her mother eventually went outside and the daughter was gone.

Oh - and her mother hangs out with a sex offender who has accosted a child for the purpose of immoral activity (among other slimy activities). Why? Because she believes that everyone should get a second chance.

Too bad little Nevaeh won't get that chance.

Know Your Constitution

Mama thinks it is a good idea that all of her little darlings out there know about their Constitution. It was written for you and for your children and for your children's children.

We'll start with the First Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the right of the press, or the right of the people to assemble peaceably, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Mama thinks this is probably one of these most important Amendments created (particularly in this day and age). You see, many people think this not only gives them the right to free speech but that it also gives people freedom from religion. That's why you see so many law suits trying to stop Christmas displays, displays of the Ten Commandments, and other references to the Almighty. Mama wonders whether or not they can read because the First Amendment doesn't promise freedom FROM religion. It promises that Congress shall not decide a national religion and that we have a right to practice our religion of choice.

Additionally in respect of the religious aspect of the First Amendment. Mama thinks people need to remember that, regardless of if you agree with it, our country was founded on Christian principles. Note that Mama did not say that we were, are, or will be a Christian nation. Christianity is the most followed form of spirituality in our nation. It is not, however, the national religion. Mama thinks some people should think and concede the fact that even if they are not Christian that the foundations put forth in this country (and don't go throwing in a red herring - look at the broad picture) gave us a good foundation. That is not to say that we as a people or nation are perfect. Our nation has a history of black eyes, but show Mama a nation that doesn't.

The First Amendment gives us free speech. However, like other rights this one is only good until you infringe upon another person's rights. Meaning, most simply, that you cannot run into a crowded and movie theater and yell the word fire. At that point you would be infringing upon our most basic rights: the rights to life, liberty, and to pursue happiness. What Mama would like to see is for people to stop using this Amendment as a double edged sword. It's okay for a particular group of people to say things about another group of people and that is freedom of speech. If, however, you substitute another group for the beginning group it becomes racism. If it is racism in one manner (or sexism), then it is racism or sexism in the manner in which it started.

The right of the press...that has both positive and negative connotations. All news channels are biased. If you want balanced news watch an hour of the conservative channel and an hour of the liberal channel. Then take an hour and think for yourself. Positive - unlike other countries our press can criticize the government. Negative - they can be sensational. It's almost like a live version of the Enquirer.

The haters at that Kansas church hide behind the First Amendment all of the time. Mama wonders if they ever bothered to read the entire Bible. Anyway - they hide behind the First Amendment because it gives the people the right to assemble peaceably. Yes, their signs are most hateful and, like Mama said, perhaps they've never read the book of John. Jesus came not to condemn but to save. Anyhoo - ever notice that while their signs are hateful they just stay put unless some well meaning soul starts trouble with them? Mama is waiting for someone to file a hate speech charge against that church (if it hasn't been done already). It would be interesting to see that play out in court.

Growing crystals

Today Mama is teaching the primary Sunday School class. We will be looking at pictures of all of the precious stones used in Heaven. You can find a description of Heaven in Revelations 21. Jasper, amethyst, sapphires, and hyancinth (bet you didn't know it was more than a flower, did you)...among others. Mama is taking her pearl and jade bracelet that Mama received from the Dean of a law school many years ago.

The theme is for this term (which is over next week) is Exploring God's Word. The regular teacher made the room look like a cave. She did a great job. Mama is standing in today while she goes to a family reunion. Thinking hard Mama wondered - what is a cave without crystals? So today we are going to make baking soda crystals.

Take two clear jars of the same height. Add six teaspoons of baking soda to each jar. Fill with very hot water and stir until the baking soda dissolves. Take two paper clips and tie them to the ends of a piece of yarn long enough to reach the bottom of both jars. Place the jars a few inches a part so the yarn doesn't touch the ground. Put a plate under the yarn. Leave it alone for a week in a nice, warm spot. Next week, you'll have baking soda crystals!

Good for Sheriff Joe!

Inmates in Maricopa County went on a hunger strike to protest the bland food they are served. Maricopa County has the infamous Sheriff Joe Arpaio calling the shots.

Mama wishes that more jails were ran in the same fashion. It would save we, the taxpayers, money by serving inexpensive meals. The news article states that the inmates get around 2500 calories per day. Mama watched a special once and the special said they eat things like peanut butter and jelly or bologna sandwiches.

Liberal rights groups are complaining that Sheriff Joe squashed the inmates First Amendment Right to free speech. Mama doesn't see it that way. Not only did he hear them, but he also allowed them to strike (or starve). That counts as a right to assemble peacefully. Not that it matters since these are criminals. If they are on the other side of the bars - they do not get the same special rights we receive as citizens. They violated the rights of someone or broke the law.

Mama likes Sheriff Joe's take. There are people that are out of work and would be happy to have a simple meal. What the heck are they complaining about?!

Follow the Bankruptcy Road...

Mama is sure that you know by now that Chrysler is in Chapter 11. Mama keeps hearing how these dealerships should get together and sue Chrysler for breaking its contracts. First - they don't know very much about bankruptcy. Second - Chrysler got rid of dealers that sold less than 100 cars per year. Obviously because of Mama's line of work...I'm going to explain to you the basics of what happens with contracts and leases under Chapter 11. Oh and Mama's prediction is that GM follows the bankruptcy road by June 1.

Mama is not an attorney and doesn't even get to play one on TV despite her amazing good looks and endless talent...

Frankly it is too early to talk in the third person about myself.

There are two kinds of contracts. There are unilateral contracts and bilateral contracts. A unilateral contract example is like what my grandmother said to her grandchildren (despite the fact we didn’t have capacity): I’ll give you $100 on your 18^th birthday IF you don’t smoke. A bilateral contract example would be like selling a house. Mary will sell her house to Bob if he gives her $500,000.

The first consideration is whether or not these contracts and leases and franchises will be considered unilateral (is Chrysler saying we’ll give you X amount of $ IF you do x) or bilateral (both parties have to do SOMETHING).

The next consideration is whether or not those contracts had what is called an ipso facto clause. Ipso facto means “it is a fact that..” Usually it is called an ipso facto bankruptcy clause. What it is supposed to do is terminate the agreement should one party enter into bk. However most courts throw them out (but most contracts have them anyway…just another useless clause kind of like an arbitration clause!). But let’s not throw this entire concept down the drain and say Chrysler is still responsible.

Section 365 of the bk code gives the trustee the option of honoring the relationship forged by the contract. The trustee can accept or reject it. The trustee must look at what is best for the estate. However if a trustee rejects the relationship because he or she reasonably believes that the estate would be harmed financially for upholding it the court can refuse to support the rejection (I don’t see that happening since the govt practically owns them…). It must be seen a clear undue burden to the estate.

Once Chrysler filed bk performance on contracts was immediately suspended for both sides meaning that Chrysler didn’t have to hold up their end of the bargain (at least for the moment) and the other party did not have to do their end.

Now, assuming a contract was in default (say that Chrysler had a contract with Bob’s Car Lot to give them x many cars per however long and they didn’t and let’s say Bob sells EVERY single Chrysler product that comes in so he wouldn’t be an undue burden) if the trustee wanted to accept the relationship he or she would first have to “cure” the default (basically bring it up to date…let’s say that you and I had a contract that I sold you something for $500 and you were to pay me $50 a month…let’s say you missed two payments. That would put you in default. To cure the default means that you would have to pay me up to what you owe AND pay me whatever is currently due). Losses would have to be compensated caused by the default and give what is known as adequate assurance that future performance will be satisfactory.

If it is rejected the side of the contract not fulfilled becomes a general unsecured claim of the estate and they will get a distribution when the estate is paid out by whatever percentage (usually not very high) is due that particular class of claims.

Moral of the story? The government still wins.

Had Chrysler filed bk from the get go without accepting bail out things might have worked out. However the government cut their advertising budget by half (even though the prez claimed he didn’t want to run it). Priority (government) claims get paid at almost 100% (and administrative claims – read trustee’s fees are ALWAYS paid at 100%). So the govt still get’s most of their money (OUR money) back, but Bob’s Car Lot probably goes under because he gets maybe 5% of what the contract was worth (or less). I’ve seen payments as low as $1.00 come in.

The government effectively screwed Chrysler and the economy will pay because as lots shut down jobs are lost (not to mention jobs lost at plants…not that I am crazy about the unions).

Miss Calfornia

Mama is almost sick to death of the entire "let's beat up Miss Calfornia" mentality. It's amazing how much this country rallies against hate speech, but does nothing when Miss Calfornia is called a bitch for speaking her religious views. So Mama thought she would take her babies to school on a few things since it is highly unlikely that Miss Calfornia is going to read this...and if you do - Mama is proud of you! You are a modern day Queen Esther and if I had daughters of my own I would want them to have you for a role model!

1. Who cares what Perez Hilton thinks? Do we pay him to talk?! Most people pay him in some manner (by visiting his site), but really...has he ever had anything intelligent to say? No. Mama's ten year old and eight year old little darlings could hold a more in-depth conversation with a potted plant than with him. He set her up. So if anyone is the bitch...well - he should just go look in the mirror. Mama doesn't use such words lightly. Mama doesn't watch beauty pagents, but I thought standard questions had to do with ending world hunger and world peace.

2. Who really cares what Donald Trump thinks? Mama is torn at this moment because Miss Calfornia does get to keep her crown..good for Donald Trump for realizing she did nothing wrong. Shame on Donald Trump for wanting someone like Perez Hilton to host his pagent again. Mama would rather have Ron Jeremy or better yet - let's do it like American Idol and let the people choose. Do we really want to have morals judged (or amorals if you look at Perez Hilton) by him? He is a shrewd business man (which I applaud him for), but the man is a schmuck. He has how many children by how many women? 'Nuff said.

3. Mama has seen racier pictures in Maxim of girls than the pictures of Miss Calfornia. Wait - what about Miss Rhode Island? What about the little girl that got in trouble for some photos and drug use and apologized? Everyone was all about "second chances". Yet a true Christian that answers for her beliefs honestly is degraded. Mama hopes that Miss Calfornia takes heart because just as Jesus was persecuted she will be persecuted. She will have a better crown waiting for her.

4. Since Trump is all about keeping Perez Hilton, Mama wonders what the success rate would be for Miss Calfornia (or any other Christian beauty contestant) for a nice law suit alleging a hostile work environment.

What is Mama thanking you for? Several people wrote to the Goober-nor at my request and prayed that Donald Gilson would not receive clemency for the murder of eight year old Shane Coffman. God heard our prayers and has given ultimate justice for the fatherless.

His execution will be this Thursday night.

Basic Math

Mama was listening to talk radio again via I Heart Radio (for crackberries). Lo and behold Mama heard the President discussing how unnecessary programs survive year after year. It turns out they survive year after year because for every dollar the President attempts to save, someone else is attempting to spend it. My, my...isn't that the pot calling the kettle...nevermind. Mama doesn't want to see a red herring here about racism when it is policy.

Mama is not a financial planner, but Mama knows that going into debt does not save you money. You do nto spend money to save money. In the last three months we have how much more debt in the national budget?! How many trillions?

If that's Obama's attempt to save money and cut unnecessary programs Mama is very scared. When you spend money, you aren't saving it. If you give your child $1 they can spend it or they can save it. They cannot do both.

The cuts he proposed only equaled about half of ONE percent. To us "small folk" yes, it does seem like a lot of money but put it into perspective.

If you were $30,000 in debt half of ONE percent would be $150.00 . That won't even make a car payment...but it might pay your cell phone bill.

Is it really a lot of money? Not when you compare it to the total deficit.

Americans are "tightening" their belt...shouldn't the government be required to do that as well? What a slap in the face for intelligent people.

Elizabeth Edward's Problem...

Mama thinks that perhaps she should make that word plural. Problems.

1. She married a schmuck. Any man that would cheat on his terminally ill wife is a schmuck. Plain and simple. The answer to that problem seems easy enough, but when we consider it we run into other problems.

2. Let's just pretend she files for divorce. Now we have to look at custody. Does North Carolina truly follow the best interest of the child doctrine in making a decision on custody? Additionally is it in the best interest of a child (emotionally, physically, and psychologically) to live primarily with a terminally ill parent? Mama agrees that custody is not and should not be looked at solely on whether or not someone is ill. In this instance, though, we have to look at what would happen to the children. First they are taken out of an in-tact home. Then they get to visit their father (assuming Mrs. Edwards received custody). Then when their mother dies they go back to live with their father. Traumatic?

3. Is North Carolina a community property state? If not, what was his before the marriage is his after the marriage. What was her's before the marriage is her's after the marriage. Whether or not the court would divide assets attributed to the marriage remains to be seen unless there was some kind of pre-nup.

4. Would alimony be appropriate? Again, assuming there is no pre-nup Mama thinks she probably would be. She would need her current lifestyle maintained plus medical care expenses that she may or may not have an income to pay. Can anyone tell Mama if Mrs. Edwards has a career? Raising kids is the best career of all, though.

5. Would it be better for everyone involved if they just continued living in the same house? It would certainly be cheaper for ~~Schmuck~~ John Edwards. Only one house to maintain, he doesn't have to visit his children. Mrs. Edwards is supported. The house is big enough to avoid each other. As long as they can behave appropriately in front of the children Mama sees this as a viable option since Mrs. Edwards told Oprah they are "old fashioned".

Old fashioned. Makes me wonder if we are talking about Hilary Clinton a la stand by my man or if this is not a history of infidelity (rather than just a schmucky decision - but Mama smells a history) a true, old fashioned try and work it out mentality.

Does she love him? Mama thinks Mrs. Edwards probably loves him because he is the father of her children. Whether or not she is in love with him remains to be seen. First, love changes through out the life span of a marriage. Second, when the going gets tough it is hard to open up to the person who ~~made you look stupid in public~~ broke your heart.

Mama wants to read Mrs. Edwards new book when it is published.

Maybe you think the bumbling, clueless husband on your favorite sit-com is cute. Mama will admit that a little bit of it is cute. Mama wants to know, though, how much is too much?

Mama knows that here in our house our little darlings are educated in how to choose their words wisely. Everyone in this house, including Mama, have their moments with saying something stupid or perhaps not getting something across correctly. However...we don't dwell on those (much - if you walk right in to a joke...only so much can be done to prevent the outburst of "Oh - you walked in to that...") because we do not want our sons growing up feeling inferior in the realm of communication.

The Dumb Male Phenomenon was brought about by femi-nazis. First they lie to women and tell us that we can do anything a man can do and we can also continue on with our own agenda. No one can do it all. People that try set themselves up for a large helping of humble pie and a stay in the local mental hospital. We are meant to enjoy life. We women, as a whole, have a nasty habit of looking down on our male counterparts. That is what they are - counterparts. Consider the word counterpart. Counter as in opposite. Men are the opposite of women.

So when the femi-nazis convince us that men are dumb, women are automatically smart - right? Mama can make you a list of women that I am ashamed to admit that I am a member of the same gender.

Mama was watching TV and knitting (yes, Mama is learning to knit!). Mama's eyes were on the ghastly creation of a scarf that's not turning out well, but my ears were listening to the TV. It was a commercial for Cheerios. The husband asked if the wife was trying to watch her weight. She automatically got defensive. "Are you saying I need to watch my weight?" No, he tried to explain, he was looking at the box. The box says that there are only 120 calories per serving. Yet she persisted that he had insulted her (she must have felt guilty about not pushing away that tub of ice cream the night before). At the end she said, "What else did the box say?" Downcast and downtrodden he said, "The box says 'Shut up, Steve.'"

Mama is sure you think it might be a cute mental image. Maybe you've seen it and you like the commercial; perhaps you consider it witty. Is it equal, though? Hardly. Math teaches us that no matter how you arrange 2+3+4+5 you will still get 14. Arrange it however you like - the problem equals 14. What about this commercial? What if, just for grins and giggles, the roles were reversed? What if it was the man eating and the woman bringing up the weight issue? If he had talked down to her in the same manner to the very point that she looks brow beaten and tells herself to shut up, people would call for a boycot because Cheerios would be advocating verbal abuse of women. Verbal abuse is verbal abuse. Why does the recipient of the abuse matter?

If femi-nazis really wanted equality why aren't they crying out about how men are not portrayed as equals? If a man were to try he would be labeled sexist or chauvinistic. Perhaps he would even be labeled as a woman hater. Oh, but don't you call a femi-nazi a man hater. After all, she's just trying to be equal while she beats someone down.

Mama learned as a little girl that you don't kick a person to get them down and then climb on their head to reach a cup.

Men are not dumb. In fact, they are very smart. Most men won't bother to offer an opinion because they will be verbally attacked. Most men won't hold open a door for a woman because they do not get thanks or they get told off. Mama has seen the latter one happen. Women are becoming monsters instead of becoming equals. Mama shouldn't say "women"...just call it like it is - femi-nazis. Femi-nazis are turning the female sex into what looks to be a group of monsters. One bad apple spoils the bunch.

Mama and Daddy took the little darlings to a book store about six years ago. Mama got very upset in the store. Mama saw a t-shirt that said, "Boys are stupid. Throw rocks at them." Cute? Funny? How about utterly insulting? Mama's little darlings are no where near stupid. Mama often hears rave reviews about the intelligence and manners instilled in the little darlings. Mama didn't do it all alone. Daddy raised them, too. Daddies teach boys to be men and how to behave like men. You won't see a shirt in a store that says that girls are stupid. Why, that would be sexist. Sexist. Mama likes that word. It implies that something wrong happened based solely on gender. Oh! Another word Mama likes...gender. We have two genders: male and female. That means we have two sexes: male and female. Guess what that means - if you are a woman and you like things that make men look incredibly stupid or beneath you...you are sexist.

Mama implores women around the world to please start looking at and treating a person according to who they are once you get to know them...don't judge first by whether or not they have an appendage between their legs.

In the meantime, Mama and the rest of the real women in this world will continue to try and unsully our good names as ladies and treat men with the same respect that we women want to be treated with.

Mama treats Daddy like a king... In turn, he treats Mama like his queen.

Males aren't dumb. They are smart enough to not bother to talk to femi-nazis...or rather attempt to talk (Mama hasn't met a femi-nazi yet that she could get a word in edgewise with). They are smart enough to realize there is a double standard. Men can't fix this double standard...and this is a dangerous double standard.

Donald Gilson

What can Mama say? Mama can say shame on Goober-nor Brad Henry for considering clemency for this monster. Donald Gilson was convicted of murdering his eight year old "step-son" Shane Coffman in the late 90s.

First let Mama clarify this post. If Mama had her druthers Shane's mama, Bertha Jean Coffman, would have gotten the death penalty, too. She received life in prison with no chance of parole. The story varies as to whether she or Gilson beat that poor child to death. Either way - she knew and should have gotten Shane out of that place.

Second Mama says shame on DHS in Oklahoma. DHS removed the Coffman children many times prior to Shane's death. Mama understands that DHS is an administrative agency and as such they can bend their rules and define words as they see fit. As far as Mama is concerned - they should be be held partially responsible for Shane's death and for the near starvation of his brothers and sisters.

Let Mama give you the short story and then Mama will tell you what she thinks.

Bertha Coffman and her several children lived in Newalla, OK in a two bed room trailer. One boyfriend that was living there sexually abused someone. DHS got involved and removed the kids (from what I've researched - this was not the first time). Coffman met Gilson when they both worked for Little Axe Schools as janitors.

Gilson physically removed the boyfriend from Coffman's property. Well, the trailer was a pit. Gilson got it back in semi-livable order and DHS gave Coffman back her children. Gilson moves in. Shortly thereafter they all walked out of Coffman's trailer and moved in to Gilson's two bedroom trailer. All the children slept in the living room floor. One bedroom was for Gilson and Coffman. The other bedroom was reserved for Gilson's leather working supplies.

Coffman pulled the children out of school and "homeschooled" them. At the end of it all - no evidence was ever found that the children were homeschooled. The children were not allowed to go outside. They were punished in many ways. They were beaten, they were forced to take cold baths, and they were forced to stand completely still against the wall. At the end of it all, once Shane's body was found, two or three of his siblings were found malnourished and practically starved to death.

One day, eight year old Shane gets in trouble and is made to stand against the wall. He stands so long and is not allowed to move to even go to the bathroom. At some point, he urinates. Gilson allegedly took the boy outside and beat him with a board. He brought him in and put him in a cold bath where they struggle. The other children are made to go in to the bathroom to tell Shane what a bad boy he was. Eventually Shane is beaten to death in that bathroom. He is left in there until the other children fall asleep. At that point Coffman and Gilson took him out and put him in an unused deep freezer outside the trailer.

Of course Gilson argued that Coffman beat the boy to death and Coffman argued that it was all Gilson and that she asked Gilson to get help and that Gilson refused.

Shane's body is found six months later in the freezer. Gilson and Coffman are arrested.

Gilson was given the death penalty and recently received the date of May 5. Mama and She of Unlimited Opinion joyously dubbed that day as Cinqo de Fryo even though Oklahoma uses lethal injection. The site listed above has Gilson's appeal. Please, have tissues handy. It doesn't matter who killed the boy you will cry. Gilson appealed for clemency.

Goober-nor Henry has given him an additional week in order to consider the appeal.

Mama wrote to Goober-nor Henry and begged him not to give that monster clemency.

We are talking about a man that didn't even have the respect to put Shane into a shallow grave (not that it would have made the crime better). The boy was put in an unused deep freeze. He had numerous injuries including a broken jaw that the coroner estimates happened around the time of Shane's death.

A grown man took a 50 pound 8 year old and beat him with a board and beat him in a bath tub until he died. His mother did nothing or may have participated in the beating.

Mama told Goober-nor Henry that someone has to stand up for this little boy. Someone needs to be the protective parent. Gilson used his appeals, now please let justice be carried out. He had no concern for Shane. Why should we have concern for his life? This wasn't some bar fight. This was a vicious attack on a child. In Louisiana one can get the death penalty for raping a child. Are we so callous that we will not demand justice for the death of a baby?

Who will mourn for Shane Coffman? Mama cried for him for more than an hour after reading it. Shane was only about six years younger than Mama. Who will demand justice be carried out?

Oklahoma residents, Oklahoma parents, and parents everywhere please read up on this case and email Goober-nor Henry and tell him that he should not give Gilson clemency. It would be a slap in the face for Shane and Oklahoma to allow that monster to live when Shane never got the chance.

Please, stand up and be the parent Shane Coffman did not have. Advocate for justice!

If Gilson receives clemency this sends a message to other abusive adults that they could kill a child and not be charged with their own lives.

Mama was watching Nancy Helmet Head Grace (seriously - she should do something about her hair do). You know how Mama loves watching current legal issue shows after her little darlings are in bed. Mama can just crochet or knit the time away whilest muttering to herself.

Anyway, what kind of world do we live in that children such as Caylee Anthony and Sandra Cantu would have been better off in the arms of Michael Jackson than in the hands of people they knew? Mamas and Sunday School teachers should be the ones that love you most; they should not be the ones that hurt babies.

The thought makes Mama feel like she needs a good cry.

Mama is dumbfounded

Really - Mama found the dumb! You can find it in local schools all across the nation. It's called the AR Program. It sounds like a glorious piece of work. Reward children for reading books and getting good grades on the test. They earn points to get the prizes. Why, children around the nation should rejoice! Mama's lil baby boy is in second grade and he loves the program. He's too young to know any better. His school has the system down pretty well. Read stories that are at least your grade level, take a test, earn points, and get a prize. This year he received a water bottle, a t-shirt, and will be going on the movie field trip.

Mama found the dumb at the next school. This is the intermediate school were her little precious man goes. This school houses fourth and fifth grades. Last year little precious man didn't want to participate and only did enough to win the prizes he wanted. Mama didn't complain once she went to the school library. Mama thought there program was D-U-M-B. Little precious man reads on a college level. Little precious man gets bored with books about unicorns and the Berenstein Bears. He's 10 years old; not 10 months old. So Mama instructed her little precious man that he only had to participate to win whatever he wanted. After all - they aren't graded. The teachers may be, though. So this year little precious man brought home the flier for the big prize. He wants to go. Problem is that he hasn't been participating enough. He told me that his school only gives between .5 and 2 points per book. This is on top of the matter that they will not let him read anything over a 5th grade level. Little precious has read Eragon (alone), two hard back star wars novels (alone), and frequently peruses the ancient world encyclopedia set. This is not your average little precious man. So Mama called the school about this. This doesn't seem right. Reading is now a chore to those that love it. Those that enjoy it and that are trying to raise their reading level don't get the chance because the library won't let them use those books. Talk about keeping a man down. Mama asked the school about the point system. Yes, the point system was accurate. So for little precious man to get the 50 additional AR points he needs, he would have to read no less than 100 books (at .5) or 25 books (at 2).

Now the issue is that the school does not have books on his reading level. Really, we like Goosebumps, but once you memorize them - they aren't fun to read anymore. Mama asked if she could take little precious man to the public library with an AR list for all schools (meaning high school list) so that we can check out a book. Mama even offered to bring it by the school for approval. Nope. They said if they don't have it in THAT school, it doesn't count and he can't use it.

Wow - so let's just take our gifted children, particularly the ones that enjoy reading, and send them to the school library to dumb them down. Maybe then we can raise more liberals that want to live off of the government or work as little as possible instead of working hard to achieve.

My word - wouldn't their librarian, who supposedly holds a Master's in Library Science, be insulted if I brought her a Highlights Magazine and told her that at home and in her leisure time that is all she is allowed to read even though she is capable of reading and understanding more? Talk about limiting. Mama thought schools were supposed to educate not hold our children back.

Today's Scripted Sunday topic is what brings us back to our childhoods. Since we are supposed to take our liberty with the subject you should know a head of time that mine is painful.

According to the Compassion International Blog (which you can find under Far, Far Away on the right menu) this is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

I was abused by both of my parents physically and emotionally as a child. At one time I would have said that I was abused mentally. I suppose some might interchange the words emotionally and mentally. In a way, some of the abuse was a gift. I realize that sounds strange, but I learned how not to treat a child. When I found out I was pregnant with Crown Prince Bryonicle I made only one conscious parenting decision. I would not treat my child (and later that extended to Crown Prince Monkey Butt) like my mother treated me.

There would be no name calling, hitting, physical abuse, or starving of my children (just to name a few of my mother's more....interesting parenting techniques).

Calling a child stupid is abuse. There is no stupid child (sure there are stupid actions). Children take those words and they apply it to themselves. They turn it into a self-fulfilling prophecy. I didn't shake off the label of worthless and stupid until I was 27 years old. I went to college solely to prove her wrong.

If you aren't sure if what you are doing as a parent is abuse, then don't do it. Find a different method. Not all children respond to the same parenting techniques. Most states have numbers for stressed parents to call to vent. Do NOT take it out on your child.

Crap for brains...

Even better....Mama can one up you. My daddy used to call me that all the time. Well now we can start calling our Oklahoma teens swiss cheese for brains. See, the newest rage is attending and participating in group sex parties...and now they are catching Syphilis. Isn't that fun? I ran with an interesting crowd in high school, but the biggest concern of me catching something from a party was getting caught out after curfew.

Parents and teachers wake up. Telling children to have "safe" sex is immoral and dangerous. Look what you've done by being their friends and encourage them to fulfil a self-prophecy of being sexy young. Now they run the risk of blindness and insanity. Good job, public schools and crappy parents!

Now maybe you will all grow a set of brass balls and start telling children the truth. Sex belongs in marriage - not as a hobby with a roomful of people. I'd rather them play Dungeons and Dragons. That might make them stupid, but it won't kill them. When people sleep around...scratch that...let me make myself ABSOLUTELY clear. When people whore around they get diseases and they get emotional baggage. Condoms don't protect you.

Oh and in Oklahoma teens will soon be able to get the morning after pill without a prescription. Good job Oklahoma! Here's a thought - if you want to combat the rise in teen pregnancy teach teen ABSTINENCE. Teach them they are worth the wait. The part of the brain responsible for foresight and decision making is not developed. So tell them the truth. Tell them the dangers that lie in sleeping around like an unpaid whore (both male and female). Do you hate your children so much that you want them to suffer?

Dear sweet parents....

Unfortunately, the schools and our children's dependence upon electronic devices for communication have failed them. Yes, you get to take the wrap for giving your little darling a cell phone.

When the employment app asks why you left the last job...your child should not put in "bcuz it was 2 ghetto". Also - when it asks what kind of position they are interested in the proper response is not "idk".

Please, for the love of cheese teach your children how to communicate effectively in writing. I know that not everyone enjoys it, but everyone should at least be able to string together a sentence with proper words and spell out things instead of using numbers to shorten it. Id is a word. It's also a legal term. "IDK" is not a real word. It's an acronym. If you didn't know - you do now. Consider this a Public Service Announcement so your kid won't be living in your basement when they are 37.

Teaching with Toothpaste

Mama has to teach Children's Church today. Mama is a firm believer that children learn better when they can tie the lesson in with an object. So Mama likes to do object lesson.

Today Mama is going to teach with toothpaste. Mama found the idea on the Internet. You squeeze out toothpaste on a saucer (the whole tube) and then you ask for a volunteer. You have your volunteer try and get the toothpaste back IN to the tube.

The idea is that just like toothpaste out of the tube...our words are the same - once they are out there...they are out there. You can't take them back.

The Scriptures for this are Prov. 12:18, Prov. 10:19, and Psalm 19:14.

Juicy Campus

Juicycampus.com shut down. Do you see me crying about it? No. Why? Because I can't figure out how we, as a society, decided that the hateful stuff posted really qualified as free speech. I was taught in 7th grade civics that you only retained your liberties until they trampled on someone else's. Really - would you want someone saying that crap about your mom, sister, grandmother, brother, etc? Yet millions just got sucked in to reading that garbage. I can't help buy wonder how many people suffered as a result of the lies that were on there. Even if some of it was true - what gives anyone else the right to air another person's dirty laundry?

Mama says that if you don't have anything nice to say just shut up. Don't post it on the Internet. Do learn a little about the golden rule and that it is a sin to gossip. Those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I, for one, can now see ONE positive aspect of the economic recession. Trash bag sites like that are going down.

The Ultimate Act of Control

A man in Australia stopped on a bridge and threw his 4 year old daughter off the bridge and into the water. The fall was around 190 feet.

The cops got the guy and apparently it was all over custody of the kids. He had his two other children with him at the time.

Women, women, WOMEN...or should I say girls, girls, GIRLS! Really pay attention to a person before you marry them or have a baby with them. Unless this guy was in some horrific accident that gave him horrific brain damage that made him commit this horrific act (which I doubt since this was a custody issue) - I promise you there was some kind of sign that he was a psycho from the get go.

This guy gained the ultimate act of control over his ex-spouse / ex-significant other by trying to kill their child. From that moment on every time she looks at that little girl she will think of him.

Girls, girls, GIRLS!! Please stop and really examine the person you are thinking about bonking or marrying. Why? Sociopaths are great about hiding their tendencies. Control freaks are not that great at hiding it. If you have any inkling of doubt you should run, not walk, to the nearest exit.

Mama can't believe people do these things as it is.....

Sugar Crystals

Take two small plates and wrap them in aluminum foil.

Take a cup of really hot water (not boiling, but really hot). Mix in 2 TABLESPOONS of sugar. Then, put 2 TABLESPOONS of this sugar water mixture on each plate.

You can add some food coloring if you want.

Let it sit, undisturbed, for three or four days and you will have rock sugar crystals!

Mama has tried a lot of things to soothe crying babies. After all, I had babies. I've worked in many a church nursery. I've babysat newborns, terrible twos, and on. I willingly subject myself to five little darlings under the age of six every Tuesday night so their parents can go to Bible study.

I've learned a lot of good techniques. I've made a lot of mistakes. I've learned what doesn't work. I've often joked that Nyquil and duct tape are a parent's best friends. I've often said that silence is golden and duct tape is silver.

I've learned how to rock a baby, walk a baby, and sometimes just hold them and let them cry.

Yet Mama thinks it is a little counterproductive to punch a baby so they won't cry.

Mama thinks that guy needs a spanking by Bubba in the county slammer!

Well on one hand I could tell you what my grandma told me. If your kid behaves for others in public and gives you a little trouble at home...that's okay. At least they can behave in public. However if she isn't listening to you in public I urge you to either talk to the Sunday School teacher about what she is doing to maintain order or watch how she handles your daughter.

Do you follow through? Do you just threaten to make her sit out from what the other "big kids" are doing or do you MAKE her sit out once or twice? I've taught Sunday School and I've dealt with children that sound similar to your daughter. Most of the time this is what I hear from the parent, "How do you get him/her to listen to you? He/she won't do anything at home! How did you get him/her to stop throwing a tantrum over the play dough?" I answer honestly every time: eye contact, firm voice, and follow through. If they do not pick up the play dough when it is time to clean up we will not play with it next time.

Kids do usually behave better for others than their own parents. Some of that is expected because they want to push the limits with their parents. However if you will continue to persevere and follow through with what you say will be a consequence the behavior should start to clear up a little.

Teachable Moments

Do you use opportunities in your home to instruct your child according to the Word?

God's Word tells us that we should talk about His ways in the morning and when we go to bed at night. We are to daily meditate on His precepts. We are to train our children in God's ways so that when they are old they will not depart from them. Does this mean you merely read the Word to your child? No. You need to create teachable moments.

Every Friday my sons' schools (one is in intermediate and one is in elementary) have a Snack Shack. I give them .50 to buy something. My younger son asked me if he could have $1.50 so he could buy one of everything. My initial thought was, wow...that's a small snack shack! I asked him why he wanted one of everything. I asked him if he was going to share or buy something for a friend (which is fine). He said that he was very tired of one little girl in particular always buying one of everything, but never sharing with anyone...and once - just once - he would like to buy one of everything.

Yes, he was a coveting just a little. I know that he has two friends in his class that do not get to buy things from the Snack Shack. I told him that I would be willing to give him the $1.50 but that I needed him to follow God's Word. Give, and it will be given back to you. Pressed down, shaken together, and running over. We feed those that are hungry. He is to share what he buys with his friends (or someone in his class) that he knows can't buy anything.

He asked me if he had to share with the little girl that never shared. I told him that if she was hungry he had to share (because it is our job, as Christians, to care for others...even when it is hard to do). If, though, she just wanted what he had and she had her own....he did not have to share unless God lays it on his heart.

My older son then asked for $1.50 instead of just the .50. He said he would like to buy two bags of chips so he can give them away.

As Christian parents we can't just scream or beat the Word of God into them. We have to be like a city set on a hill...a light for our children to model after. We can tell them what God wants or requires. We also have to teach them how to apply it to their life.

The Bible is only a book of words unless we actively apply it.

Mama says this school should be grounded!!

An eight year old girl with Asperger's Syndrome was taken away from school in hand cuffs. The school said the girl committed battery when she was told she couldn't wear her cow sweatshirt to a Christmas party. The little girl tried to leave but was restrained by teachers so she started kicking to get away. Hence, battery.

Mama says this is a BAD school and should be GROUNDED. I don't have a child with Aspergers or Autism. However I do know that Aspergers is a high functioning Autism. I think it would be fair to at least consider that she is emotionally immature for her age. What do young children do when they are scared? They fight back. Obviously these teachers aren't trained.

I am all for a zero tolerance district, but give me a break. Take the entire situation into consideration before acting. It is obvious this child was in distress. What is the big deal about her wearing a shirt with a cow on it?

Bad school! Mama says YOU ARE GROUNDED!!
